Hello December! It’s the perfect time to be knitting socks because the weather is undeniably colder and hand knit wool socks are simply the best for keeping toes warm.
I started ankle vanilla socks for knitting at a conference in October and got them off the needles in November. The yarn is Red Heart’s Heart and Sole, purchased for super cheap from a thrift store. I was surprised that it had wool content (73% Wool, 27% Nylon, according to Ravelry), so the 50g ball made a quick pair with Cascade Heritage for cuff, heel, and toe.
I started another mindless vanilla pair, the bulk of the first leg was knit at the theatre! On the last Saturday of November, I saw Cats in Toronto with sister, best friend, and best friend’s daughter. Somehow during Act 1, I accidentally created a yarn over extra stitch which I was able to correct during the intermission. There is one little eyelet in this leg, but I’m not mad at it. A good chunk of the foot was worked while watching A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood at the movies earlier this week. I do love a simple sock with stunning self patterning yarn. Little effort, maximum output.
Finally, my Hermione’s Half Blood Prince Socks have seen progress in that I finished them last night! They just need a bath in Soak, but even on my sock stretchers, they look awesome. I’m really happy with these socks and can’t wait to get my feet in them! Clicking on the picture should mean you can see the pattern bigger. It gets a little lost on the darker yarn in the pictures…
I have so much stash yarn that I really should not be buying more sock yarn; the question, however, is do I stash dive and use some of the self striping yarn or find a simpler yarn and knit something lovely and complicated… off to Ravelry!
